But few details are known about the necklace, even though it is one of the most famous pieces of jewelry in history. It was said to be made of gold and silver, and to have been adorned with precious stones. While Historyat is still working on the story, here is what we do know so far. Leonidas is said to have given the necklace to his wife, Gorgo, as a wedding present. Gorgo wore the necklace throughout her life, and it was buried with her when she died. It was then stolen or misplaced. But where is it now? Some believe that the necklace is still buried in Greece, while others believe that it was taken to Persia. Still others believe that it was lost at sea. The truth about the necklace's whereabouts may never be known. But the mystery surrounding it continues to fascinate people to this day.
