History and Format

The Curtis Cup is a biennial match-play competition between teams of the finest amateur women golfers from the United States and Great Britain and Ireland.

Established in 1932, this esteemed event is modeled after the men's Ryder Cup.

The matches are played over three days, with eight four-ball matches and eight foursomes matches on the first two days, followed by 16 singles matches on the final day.

Past Winners and Notable Matches

The United States has won the Curtis Cup 33 times, while Great Britain and Ireland has emerged victorious 12 times.

Some of the most memorable matches in Curtis Cup history include:

  • In 1964, Catherine Lacoste led a French team to a surprising victory over the United States.
  • In 1988, Michelle Wie, then a 13-year-old, became the youngest player to compete in the Curtis Cup.
  • In 2018, the United States won by a record margin of 17-3.

Upcoming Event

The 42nd Curtis Cup will be held at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, from June 10-12, 2023.

The United States team, led by captain Sarah Ingram, will feature some of the top amateur players in the world, including Rachel Heck, Megha Ganne, and Anna Davis.

Great Britain and Ireland, captained by Alison Nicholas, will field a strong team including Annabel Dimmock, Caley McGinty, and Olivia Mehaffey.
