RWE and Westfalen Group Team Up for Hydrogen Fuel Station Infrastructure in Germany

Joint Venture Aims to Boost Hydrogen Fueled Heavy Transportation

Exclusive Partnership to Expand Hydrogen Network in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia

RWE and Westfalen Group have formed a joint venture to develop a hydrogen fuel station infrastructure in Germany, with a focus on heavy commercial vehicles. The partnership aims to expand the hydrogen fuel station network in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia, two key regions for transportation and logistics in Germany.

The joint venture, called RWE Westfalen Wasserstoff, will be responsible for planning, building, and operating hydrogen fuel stations. The first station is expected to be operational in 2025 at the Emsland gas-fired power plant in Germany.

The move comes as part of RWE's broader strategy to transition to clean energy. The company plans to build hydrogen-ready gas-fired power plants at its own former power plant sites in Germany by 2030 to help achieve the goal of phasing out coal by 2030.

The partnership with Westfalen Group, a leading provider of energy and mobility solutions, will enable RWE to leverage its expertise in hydrogen production and distribution, while Westfalen Group will bring its experience in refueling and hydrogen logistics.

Conclusion

The joint venture between RWE and Westfalen Group is a significant step in the development of a hydrogen fuel station infrastructure in Germany. By targeting heavy commercial vehicles, the partnership will help reduce emissions in the transportation sector and contribute to the country's transition to a clean energy future. As the demand for hydrogen-powered vehicles increases, this joint venture is poised to play a vital role in meeting the growing need for hydrogen fuel and ensuring a sustainable transportation system for Germany.
