Former Pro Hockey Player Remembered Fondly

The hockey community is in mourning today after the tragic loss of Stephen Peat, a former NHL player who spent time with the Danbury Trashers. He was 44 years old.

Peat's death was confirmed by his former team, the Danbury Trashers, who released a statement expressing their condolences. "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Stephen Peat," the statement read. "Stephen was a great teammate, friend, and member of our community. He will be deeply missed."

Peat was born in Danbury, Connecticut, and played hockey at Danbury High School. He was a standout player for the Hatters, leading the team to a state championship in 1994. After graduating high school, Peat played junior hockey for the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League (USHL). He was then drafted by the New York Islanders in the ninth round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

Peat made his NHL debut with the Islanders in the 1999-2000 season. He played in 25 games for the Islanders, recording one goal and two assists. He also played for the Atlanta Thrashers and the Dallas Stars during his NHL career.

After his NHL career, Peat played in the American Hockey League (AHL) and the ECHL. He retired from professional hockey in 2010.

Peat was remembered by his former teammates as a great teammate and friend. He was also known for his sense of humor and his love of the game of hockey.

The cause of Peat's death has not been released.
